C.F.D. {Creative Food Drive}

Bull City Race Fest Runners!

Check out this great event after the Bull City Race Expo on Saturday.

Feel like spending an afternoon watching people design and construct works of art out of cans of soup, bags of beans and boxes of pasta, all while being serenaded by local music, enjoying tasty food truck grub, sipping on some cold North Carolina brew and watching the kiddies run around? Luckily for you, Saturday, October 19th from 3-7 pm at American Tobacco is the third annual C.F.D. {Creative Food Drive}.

C.F.D. is a one part food drive, one part festival, and eight parts intense competition. Created and organized by Durham architecture firm MHAworks, Creative Food Drive has raised over 21,000 pounds of food in the last two years for Housing for New Hope and the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina.
The competing teams, comprised of Durham businesses, organizations and various small groups, raise nonperishable food items and are given 90 minutes to build a sculpture out of the food. These sculptures are then judged by a panel of key Durham representatives, including the City of Durham’s Mayor Bill Bell (talk about pressure!) and DDI’s former president Bill Kalkhof. The community also gets to throw their vote in the hat with the People’s Choice Award.

This year’s live music features Embers End, Sarah Shook and the Devil and Lonnie Walker. Pack that in with food trucks like Deli.icious,Valentino’s,Sweet Water Ices, our favorite local breweries Fullsteam and Bull City Burger and Brewery, and a kid’s zone with pumpkin painting and a bouncy castle, and this local festival gets the creative juices flowing and strengthens Durham.

Also, it’s completely free to attend! So bring your families, friends, folding chairs and a few cans from your cupboards to give back to your community.
